Announcing the birth of
FANTASM MEDIA GROUP
Issue #1:
GEORGE A. ROMERO
May 12th, 2017 - Veteran print media figures Chris Alexander (editor of
FANGORIA, GOREZONE, DELIRIUM, KISS Magazine and horror editor at
www.ComingSoon.net), Brian Steward (writer and artist for
HEAVY METAL, FANGORIA, KISS Magazine, DELIRIUM) and legendary designer Bill Mohalley (
VAMPIRELLA, CREEPY, FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND, FANGORIA, KISS Magazine, DELIRIUM and dozens more) have teamed up to start a new publishing company specializing in the production of niche culture magazines.
Announcing the birth of FANTASM MEDIA GROUP, a venture dedicated to the creation of high quality, limited edition and officially licensed magazines focusing on some of horror, dark fantasy, rock and roll and pop culture’s most celebrated names. For their first issue, Alexander, Steward and Mohalley are excited to be creating a magazine DEADicated to one of cinemas most revered auteurs and the man who refined, perfected and popularized the modern zombie mythos: writer, producer and director George A. Romero (NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, DAWN OF THE DEAD etc.).
“This is a logical step for us,” says Alexander of the partnership.
“Bill has been making magazines for over 40 years and my working relationship with him making 6 years of FANGORIA magazines – though he has been their art director since 1983 – yielded not only dozens of exciting mass produced magazines but an enduring friendship. Brian is a revered fine artist and writer who has been working in the industry for years and the three of us have continued working together on DELIRIUM magazine with great success. We have a shared love of print media and horror movies and pop culture and FANTASM MEDIA is our bid to create beautifully produced magazines made exclusively for the collectors market. And to kick off with a licensed tribute to our friend and hero George A. Romero is an honor indeed.”
“Monster magazines were a huge part of my childhood and I love making them with these guys. It only made sense to strike out on our own to create the kind of high quality collectible magazines we wanted to see, but never did. A lot of people think print is dead, but the truth is, print will never die. The need to hold a magazine or book in your hands will always be greater than the need to have a picture of it on a screen. Digital is fine, but I can't put that on my shelf,” added Steward.
“I’m honored to be the first cat featured in this new series,” says Romero.
“And I absolutely love the cover art! Here’s to many more great magazines to come.”
The FANTASM MEDIA magazine series will be available at select retail outlets and directly from
www.fantasm-media.com and a pre-sale will be announced soon.
